Introduction:
Marketing has changed over the past decade and new practices are coming out even faster than before. To keep ahead of the competition and also develop your careers within marketing The Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) have developed a range of courses for each skill level to help develop you and your career.
The aim of the CIM Level 4 Certificate in Professional Digital Marketing is to provide the practising marketer with relevant, contemporary marketing content to equip them for the current global landscape.
This course is aimed at aspiring marketers who want to gain knowledge and skills to progress within a career of marketing. It is ideal for those working in support roles i.e. marketing assistants or whose current job encompasses elements of marketing.
Learning is brought to life through meaningful and active assessment methods which embrace the modern marketing industry.
Successful completion of the CIM Level 4 Certificate in Professional Digital Marketing will establish the knowledge, skills and understanding to be able to perform at an operational level and to carry out an essential and successful professional marketing role within the workplace.
Those who successfully achieve this qualification are able to understand the wider role of marketing and how their practical skills can be applied to their career progression within the marketing profession.

What you’ll study
This course begins in April 2023 and September 2023.
Successful completion of three modules will lead to the CIM Certificate in Professional Digital Marketing. Each module can be registered for separately and studied as a distinct, standalone award in that subject.
To take a qualification, you'll need to join CIM first. As a member of CIM, you will have access to a range of benefits and resources that can support your studies and professional marketing career. If you are already a member, just apply for your chosen qualification.
Accredited Degree
Through the CIM's Accredited Degree programme, you may qualify for exemptions from this course. Take a look at the CIM website to see if you are eligible.
Applied Marketing (September start)
In this module, you will learn about the role of marketing in the organisation and the key concepts that underpin the activities of the marketer. You will explore the marketing environment, customer behaviour in the digital age, market research and the marketing planning process. This will include the marketing mix and a tactical planning framework to aid marketing effectiveness.
Module structure
Three units with two learning outcomes each. Each learning outcome will be covered by the related assessment criteria (weighting indicated in brackets). By the end of this module you should be able to:
Unit 1: The Marketing Concept
- Understand the contribution of marketing to the organisation (15%).
- Know what influences customer behaviour across a range of contexts (15%).
Unit 2: Analysis and Insight
- Understand the factors and trends in the marketing environment and how they affect marketing (15%).
- Know a range of options for gathering relevant marketing information (15%).
Unit 3: Marketing Mix
- Understand the application of the marketing mix within different marketing contexts (20%).
- Know how to apply and adapt the marketing mix to satisfy customer needs and business goals (20%).
Planning Campaigns (January start)
This module gives you the knowledge and skills to plan and implement successful campaigns that deliver real results for an organisation. You will learn the campaign planning process including how to analyse an organisation’s current position. You will also learn how to set campaign objectives, implement a campaign then measure and evaluate its success to aid continuous improvement in the fast-changing world of marketing.
Module structure
Three units with two learning outcomes each. Each learning outcome will be covered by the related assessment criteria (weighting indicated in brackets). By the end of this module you should be able to:
Unit 1: Campaign Process
- Understand the process of planning a campaign (15%)
- Know how to undertake an internal and external situational analysis (15%)
Unit 2: Planning Campaigns in Action
- Know how to develop a successful campaign plan (30%)
- Understand how to implement a plan in practice (20%)
Unit 3: Campaign Success
- Understand the principles of monitoring a marketing campaign (10%)
- Know how to undertake a post campaign evaluation (10%)
Digital Marketing Techniques (April start)
This module is about appreciating the importance of the ever-evolving digital landscape. You will develop skills to improve digital marketing effectiveness and understand the nature of the challenges and opportunities within the digital environment and outlines the skills and tools required to support and enhance marketing activities. You will also use a range of tools to plan how to enhance an organisation's effectiveness in the digital age.
Module structure
Three units with two learning outcomes each. Each learning outcome will be covered by the related assessment criteria (weighting indicated in brackets). By the end of this module you should be able to:
Unit 1: Digital Techniques
- Understand digital marketing tools and techniques (15%).
- Assess different applications of digital marketing (15%).
Unit 2: Digital Enhancement
- Know how to integrate digital and offline marketing (15%).
- Understand approaches to enhancing stakeholder engagement (20%).
Unit 3: Digital Management
- Know how to develop a digital marketing plan (20%).
- Apply and adapt digital marketing analysis (15%).

How you’re taught
Study methods and assessment
A variety of assessment methods are used for the CIM Level 4 Certificate in Professional Digital Marketing. These differ across modules and can include examinations, written assignments and practical portfolio submission. Assessment methods used within the qualification are employer-driven, practitioner-based, relevant and appropriate for business needs.
The main focus is on blended learning with supported online documents.
Attendance
You will be required to attend an afternoon and evening session from 2 pm till 4 pm and then 4.30 pm till 6.30 pm on alternate Wednesdays throughout the course. There are two Saturday workshop sessions.
Careers and employability
This course does not currently offer placements, but the course assignments are based on real-world issues.
Applicants must therefore be in employment, or be able to gain access to an organisation upon which to base assignments. You will need permission from the organisation to use their data during your course.
Career development
In an increasingly crowded workplace, the practical nature of this course will help to differentiate you from other applicants, and will indicate to employers that you're serious about marketing. This course will help demonstrate that you've got the skills and techniques needed to devise and execute tactical marketing activities.
Students from this course have gone onto roles such as marketing executive and marketing officer.

Entry requirements
You will need one of the following:
- Honours degree; or
- CIM Level 3 Introductory Certificate in Marketing; or
- NVQ Marketing Level 3; or
- NVQ Level 4 in any subject.
- Applicants with non-standard entry qualifications will be considered on an individual basis.

Unfortunately, we cannot accept International students onto this course. As a part-time course we are unable to accept applications from students that require a Student Route visa.
Fees and funding
The tuition fees below are the fees for courses starting between September 2022 - August 2023. Fees are subject to annual review and will be confirmed in due course for 2023/24 entry.
