Introduction:
The principle aims for this course is to provide post-qualifying professional development pertinent to the students’ area of work and mapped to specialist National Standards or guidelines in Urgent and Emergent Care.
Students will develop academic and practice knowledge and skills using research, critical evaluation, and application of their learning to their professional practice
What you’ll study
The course has been designed to allow students to pursue education relative to their clinical specialism and yet within the structure of a defined framework. The modules and learning outcomes are designed to enable the student to develop within a structured and supported learning environment that blends both academic and professional knowledge and skills. The programme allows students to address common themes across the current agenda of urgent and emergent care. It comprises of 2 modules of 30-credits and encourages students to critically reflect on their current practice, discuss underpinning research, professional guidance and debate case-studies to develop their clinical expertise to improve clinical judgement and decision making.
The learning environment and level of teaching will be the same for each level of study (post registration certificate, (level 6) or postgraduate (level 7). The level of study and therefore attainment will be differentiated at assessment only, students will be assessed at either Level 6 or 7.
Modules
Module 1 Clinical Assessment and Management in Emergency and Urgent Care Practice – 30 credits
This module aims to Produce practitioners who promote optimal outcomes and demonstrate effective and competent practice in clinical assessment and management in both face to face and via remote methodologies, for patients presenting with undiagnosed and undifferentiated urgent or emergent injury or illness
Module 2 Contemporary developments in Emergency and Urgent Care Practice – 30 credits
Module 2 aims to develop an expertise in the methods used for assessing patients with more complex health needs and/or in more complex situations. Building on the first module to develop the students core skills in urgent and emergent care.

How you’re taught
Delivery Mode
Teaching will be delivered using a variety of approaches, which include, lectures, problem-based learning, collaborative learning, and reflection on clinical practice. The course is delivered through a blended delivery of on campus and online learning. This course is co-delivered by experienced academics and specialist staff embedded in current renal clinical practice. This offers a synergistic approach to course delivery to ensure that the course remains current and responsive to changes in current practice. Students can develop knowledge and skills across a range of urgent and emergent contexts and apply learning to practice through critical reflection and discussion of practice.
Clinical Area
Students should work within an appropriate healthcare setting while studying this course. This will enable students to reflect on their current practice and apply the knowledge and skills that are learned throughout the course. The course will also use case studies relating to the specialty and workplace along with discussion of professional practice to facilitate the integration of theory and practice.

Entry requirements (UK)
- Applicants will be registered health care professionals (registered with the NMC or HCPC) currently working in an area of practice which is pertinent to the course
- Applicants for the Professional certificate must have a level 5 qualification, applicants for the Post graduate certificate must have a level 6 qualification or evidence of the ability to study at Level 6
- Applicants must be supported by the managers
