Awards and reputation
Our recent successes showcase our commitment to making a global impact on the fields of research, academia, and student experience. In the last year alone, we’ve had some incredible successes in all these areas.
In 2017, we were crowned the University of the Year at the Times Higher Education Awards, named the Modern University of the Year by The Times and Sunday Times, and recognised as one of the most sustainable universities in the world.
Here you'll find further evidence of our commitment and more about some of our recent successes.
Our teaching has been rated Gold standard in the 2017 Teaching Excellence Framework. That means we deliver consistently outstanding teaching, learning and outcomes for our students.
We're ranked in the top 20 universities in the UK for our teaching quality (Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2016). Our pioneering teaching methods, and enthusiastic, experienced staff really make our courses the best they can be.
Nottingham Business School achieved the prestigious AACSB and EQUIS accreditations in 2016 and 2017. Fewer than 1% of business schools worldwide have both, confirming the rigorous and innovative standards of our teaching and research.
Our award-winning research underpins all our courses and has global impact around the world.
From pioneering cancer research to research into explosives detection in luggage, our world-leading research impacts people’s lives, as well as what our students learn. Pioneering projects earned us a Queen’s Anniversary Prize in 2015 – the highest national honour for a UK university. The scheme recognises and promotes world-class excellence and achievement in universities and colleges in the UK. We were awarded our prize after The Awards Council of the Royal Anniversary Trust made a final recommendation to the Prime Minister for advice to the Queen.
In the 2014 Research Excellence Framework (REF), 90% of our research was judged to be ‘world-leading’, ‘internationally excellent’ or ‘internationally recognised.’
Our commitment to providing an excellent experience to all our students influences everything we do.
We’re proud to say that 93% of our students would recommend studying at NTU (latest National Student Survey 2017) and we were runners-up in the Student Experience category at the 2017 Guardian University Awards.
We were voted the best university for international students in the 2016 WhatUni Student Choice awards and a further two awards for Excellence in International Student Support in Higher Education, and Innovation in Internationalising the Student Experience in the NUS and UKCISA Internationalisation awards.
Students have also named Nottingham as the joint fourth best student city in the world in the student view category of the QS Best Student Cities index 2017.
