We are committed to making a contribution to the world through everything we do. This is reflected in the impact we make on the research, academic and student experience arena on our current and former students and staff, local community, and the wider world.

Our research has global impact and is changing lives around the world.
In 2015 we were awarded the highest national honour for a UK university – a Queen's Anniversary Prize for Higher and Further Education for our world-class research. The scheme recognises and promotes world-class excellence and achievement in universities and colleges in the UK.
Three of our pioneering projects that earned us this prestigious award were our work to:
- improve weapons and explosives detection in luggage
- enable safer production of powdered baby milk
- fight food fraud.
