Our strategic partnership
In 2016, NTU launched a strategic partnership in Beijing with Communication University of China (CUC). NTU’s Joint Education Institute with CUC, known as the Faculty of International Media or ICUC), offers Chinese students the choice of three joint Master’s programmes in MA Broadcast Journalism, MA Media and Globalisation and MA Museum and Heritage Management.
Formerly known as Beijing Broadcasting Institute (BBI), CUC is one of the top five universities in China for Journalism (2015 CUCAS China University Ranking) and is a highly respected institution, particularly for its work in media. The partnership between colleagues in Beijing and from NTU’s School of Arts and Humanities has grown from strength to strength since NTU academics first began to teach in Beijing when the programmes enrolled their first cohorts in September in 2016. This partnership has NTU’s internationalisation strategy at its very heart, offering Chinese students a UK university education both in their home country and in the UK. Students are able to become accustomed to the British style of teaching, learning and assessment, as well as enhance their English Language skills significantly, before even setting foot in the UK.
Each Masters degree is delivered over two years with students based in Beijing for their first year, taught by both NTU and CUC academic staff. The majority of students come to the UK for their second year allowing them to really immerse themselves in UK culture. While in Nottingham, students can work on their dissertation and gain valuable work experience, including at NTU’s own TV station, Notts TV. MA Broadcast Journalism students are able to use the outstanding specialist facilities available at NTU’s multi-million pound Centre for Broadcasting & Journalism (CBJ) providing them with an opportunity to develop their skills in a professional, industry-standard real-life journalistic environment.
