Photography: Catwalks and Sidewalks

On this course you will explore contemporary fashion photography and the aesthetic qualities of photographing urban locations and buildings.

You will have the opportunity to work in a studio with professional lighting equipment and direct a model.

On this practical course you'll be introduced to the aesthetics of both digital fashion photography and historic and contemporary buildings.

Week 1 – Fashion Photography

In this week you will develop your technical photography skills and complement them with an understanding of contemporary fashion photography and its context within modern society.

You will improve your understanding of digital photography and the manual settings of your camera, experience working in the studio with professional lighting equipment while direct a model and styling a contemporary look.  You will source sets, props and backdrops to create unique, beautiful and inspiring fashion images that demonstrate your personal approach.

Week 2 – Photography and Architecture

Being able to capture a unique image is a real skill and which sets professional photographers aside from others.  This practical course will appeal to anyone interested in the urban environment and how the aesthetic qualities of buildings can be captured in a photograph.   During this week you will improve your understanding of digital photography and the manual settings of your camera while working in a variety of urban locations, capturing the external and internal qualities of historic and contemporary buildings.  You will experiment with abstract shapes, colours and textures to create inspiring architectural images that have aesthetic and potential commercial quality.

You should have completed at least one year of undergraduate studies, have some experience of digital photography and be competent when using a digital SLP camera in manual mode.  You should also have the required English language skills.
