Senior Lecturer, BA (Hons) International Business
I firmly believe that each one of my students can change the world for the better. I challenge them to embrace that, and I ask for their constant curiosity; give me that, and I’ll help you develop the knowledge and confidence you’ll need to succeed.
My start in teaching was quite unusual. I first realised I loved doing it when I was coaching hockey on my college course! It’s a very motivating thing to do: to support people and help them grow.
Later, as part of my role in adventure tourism, I trained people in all the different countries I worked in - from Egypt to Mongolia and Uzbekistan. There’s something very gratifying about it, not just in developing people’s skills, but in building that mindset, that community, and that sense of belonging. And that’s what I love most about teaching.
Our students are still inspiring me today, and they continue to influence my own work. Watching their skills and confidence develop, seeing that journey from day one of their course through to graduation - it’s so empowering to know you’ve been a part of it, and that you’ve helped to set people on the path to a great future. When you teach, you’re helping students to grow, and not just as learners, but as people.
I firmly believe that each one of my students can change the world for the better. Success means working as a team and building communities, and that’s where NTU really shines: it’s a community-driven place where everybody feels included and worthy. It’s brimming with passionate people, and it’s focused on positive causes and good kinds of challenges. It’s a place that accommodates all different learning styles, rejects barriers, and believes in encouragement and empathy.
You walk through the doors here, and NTU magically creates this sense of brilliance in everyone. It makes people powerful. And in the end, that’s all we want; for the path you walk to be your own, and for you to be truly unique.
