Course Leader, Film Production and Technology at Confetti

The class sizes are comparatively small here, which means you’ll feel part of a community. Our students have easy access to their tutors, and there’s a genuine creative buzz around the place.

One of my college lecturers recently told me they weren’t surprised I’d gone into teaching: that when I was 17 or 18, I was always looking to help people out and show them how I’d done things. It’s the same thing today — except now I’m bringing all the lessons from my industry experience into the classroom.

In my subject area, an inspiring teacher is someone who loves films and how they’re made; someone who’s excited by all the details of the production process. But it’s a two-way thing, and I get inspired by the students myself; seeing them grow is like watching deer learn to walk, as they become these super-confident professionals who know exactly what they want to do. And then later, when one of my students has got their work out there at a festival, or on a streaming service, or they’ve done something on the web that’s getting loads of likes, it’s magical.

There are so many things we’ve achieved in recent years that I’m proud of. Our student satisfaction rate is currently 91%, and it’s rising year on year. We’ve created residential trips, where our students go away for a few days and make a film; we’ve introduced after-hours extracurricular activities like the Screening and Film Production clubs; we’ve even had trips to New York. The class sizes are comparatively small here, which means you’ll feel part of a community. Our students have easy access to their tutors, and there’s a genuine creative buzz around the place.

It’s important to know that our expectations of you aren’t based on prior skill or knowledge, just your hunger for film, and your desire to learn. We like students who want to work hard and constantly better themselves.

They’re the qualities you’ll need in the industry itself, because it’s a tough one, and it takes a certain mindset to succeed. But with the right attitude, success is definitely possible.
