Whether you're staying in Nottingham or travelling to be with family and friends over the Winter Break, we'll be keeping many of our services and facilities open for you to access, either in person or remotely.

Whether you're staying in Nottingham or travelling to be with family and friends over the Winter Break we'll be keeping many of our services and facilities open for you to access, either in person or remotely.

Student Support Services

At NTU we want our students to feel supported all year round. If you’re on your own this Winter Break and need any help at all, please reach out to us. Our Student Support Services is available for advice on finances, mental wellbeing and practical support you may need over the Winter Break.

If you find your mental wellbeing is suffering, please get in touch. We have plenty of advice and resources to support you and will provide help to you when you most need it.

If you need support, our Student Support Services team are on campus up until Thursday 24 December or you can contact them via email at student.support@ntu.ac.uk.

The Student Support Services opening hours over the Winter Break are as follows:

  • Monday 14 – Friday 18 December, Monday to Thursday, 8.30 am – 5 pm; Friday, 8.30 am – 4.30 pm
  • Monday 21 December, 10 am – 4 pm
  • Tuesday 22 December, 10 am – 4 pm
  • Wednesday 23 December, 10 am – 4 pm
  • Thursday 24 December, 10 am – 2 pm

This year, as life is so extraordinary, we’re offering additional support between Christmas Eve and Monday 4 January. If you need help of any kind please call our NTU Being on Campus helpline +44 (0)115 848 6060 (and select option 1) or email ntu.beingoncampus@ntu.ac.uk. The helpline voicemail and email will be checked regularly and open to calls between 10 am and 2 pm every weekday except bank holidays. The phoneline will also be open 10 am – 4 pm on Saturday 2 and Sunday 3 January to answer any queries about returning to campus. The team will offer advice, answer any queries or escalate to our Student Support Services if you need extra support.

Winter Break Festival: 29 – 31 December

There are still plenty of events that you can get involved with even though term has finished, including our virtual Winter Break Festival from 29 to 31 December. Join us for quizzes (with prizes!), bingo, walks and lunch – find out more and stay connected.

Libraries

We’ll be keeping our libraries open at City, Clifton and Brackenhurst for most of the Winter Break. Check the opening times before travelling if you’re planning on visiting the library or you can use our services remotely. Remember, if you’re coming in to use a study space over the Winter Break, make sure you book and please wear a face covering.

Global Lounge

Our Global Lounge team will be running a series of virtual and in person socially distanced events throughout December from games to languages, find them on the events calendar by searching ‘Global Lounge’.

Until the end of term the opening times for the physical Global Lounges are:

  • City: 9 am – 7 pm, Monday to Thursday, 9 am – 5 pm Fridays
  • Clifton: 9 am – 5 pm, Monday to Friday

From Monday 14 – Friday 18 December the opening times for the physical Global Lounges are:

  • City: 9 am – 5 pm, Monday to Friday
  • Clifton: 10 am – 4 pm, Monday to Friday

From Monday 21 – Thursday 24 December the opening times for the physical Global Lounges are:

  • City: 11 am – 7 pm Monday to Thursday
  • Clifton: closed

From Friday 25 December – Sunday 3 January both lounges will be closed.

Both Lounges reopen on Monday 4 January:

  • City: 9 am – 5 pm, Monday to Friday
  • Clifton: 10 am – 4 pm, Monday to Friday

Faith

If you’re staying in Nottingham over the Winter Break, there are plenty of places of worship in Nottingham and the local area, you can attend during this time.

Students remaining in Nottingham who may be experiencing food poverty or loneliness are welcome to visit SaSh, a Muslim/Jewish led community kitchen based in Hyson Green. SaSh offer hot food every Wednesday from 5.30 pm to 6.30 pm, with a festive food service on Wednesday 23 December.

NTU Faith are also running a series of virtual and in person socially distanced events throughout December with NTU’s Global Lounge, find them on the events calendar by searching ‘faith’.

Gyms and virtual fitness classes

Students are welcome to access NTU’s gym facilities at City and Clifton for free over the Winter Break, from Tuesday 29 December to Thursday 31 December. You’ll need to book your sessions through the NTU Sport app. If you’re new to NTU Sport create your account before Sunday 20 December so that the Sport Team can help you if you get stuck. Please also familiarise yourself with their terms and conditions.

When visiting the gyms, please be sure to follow the rules set out in this video to help keep you and your community safe.

Over the Winter Break, the City and Clifton gyms will be open on the following days, prior booking will be required:

  • Wednesday 2 – Sunday 20 December, Monday – Friday, 7 am – 9 pm (closing at 6 pm on Friday 18 December); weekends, 10 am – 6 pm
  • Monday 21 – Monday 28 December, closed
  • Tuesday 29 – Thursday 31 December, 11 am – 4 pm (City Gym only)
  • Friday 1 – Sunday 3 January, closed
  • Monday 4 January onwards, Monday – Friday, 7 am – 9 pm; weekends, 10 am – 6 pm

Our virtual classes will continue to run during the Winter Break on the following days:

  • Wednesday 2 – Friday 18 December, Monday – Friday, class times vary
  • Monday 21 – Wednesday 23 December, one lunchtime class
  • Tuesday 29 – Thursday 31 December, one lunchtime class
  • Monday 4 – Friday 8 January, one lunchtime and one evening class per day

Daily class updates will be shared on NTU Sports Instagram account, access to the virtual classes is via Microsoft Teams.

NTU Students can enjoy the fitness facilities at University of Nottingham’s David Ross Sports Village over the Winter Break from just £10!

UoN are offering NTU students access to a winter fitness pass from 21 to 31 December 2020 for 7 consecutive days. Perfect for those looking to stay active and healthy over the Winter Break.

The NTU 7-day winter fitness pass includes:

  • Access to their fitness suite at David Ross Sports Village
  • Working out with their group exercise programme (dependent on current national / local restrictions)
  • Access to their indoor courts, including squash
