There's something rousing about a great brass band. And it could be just the experience you're looking for.
Our University Brass Band started small. It began in 2013 as a quintet, but it's bloomed into a thriving ensemble that's played around the UK. It's led by brass tutor and renowned trombonist Peter Lacy.
We welcome NTU students, staff, alumni and members of the local community. You don't need to audition, and you'll be able to hire an instrument if you don't have one of your own.
If you decide to join, an academic year's membership currently costs £20 for NTU students, £40 for staff and alumni and £80 for community members. You get a third off after Christmas if you want to join in January. The membership fee includes rehearsals, performances and sheet music, but not concert uniform (smart black trousers, smart black shirt, black shoes). You can purchase a membership through the NTU Online Store.
We rehearse on Rehearsals take place on Wednesdays (term time only) between 5.30 pm and 7 pm in the Ensemble Room at the Music Centre on the City Campus.
Once you've gained confidence, you'll be able to play at a range of events, including the world's only university brass band competition...Unibrass.
All areas of the Music Centre are accessible for wheelchair users. Accessible toilets are available on the ground floor and there is a lift to all levels of the building.
