Drumline

A drum performance can be both dynamic and extremely visual. Be part of Drumline, and join a group with a difference.

Our Drumline group plays pieces for marching snare drums and bass drums. The results can be driving and engrossing.

We draw from the playing styles of some of the world's best drumlines, including Top Secret Drum Corps. You'll hone your technical skills, and be part of performances that will turn heads.

What's involved?

Drumline is split into two groups, which are open to staff, students, alumni and community members.

The Beginners sessions are open to all, and require no previous experience or sheet-music reading skill.

Once you're more confident, you could be invited to the Performance session.

Our Performance drumline play in events such as the annual Unibrass competition and the annual Christmas Spectacular and Summer Celebration, plus a range of external bookings.

Performance players should be able to play at a Grade Five level or above, although it is not necessary to have sat the exam. Sight-reading skills are an advantage.

When do you rehearse?

Rehearsals take place on Thursday evenings (term time only) at the NTU Music Centre, City Campus.

Drumline (beginners), 7.30 pm – 8.15 pm, Studio
Drumline (performance), 8.15 pm – 9.15 pm, Ensemble Room

What does membership cost?

A year's membership costs £60 for community members,  £30 for staff and alumni, and £15 for students (2018/19). The fee is discounted by a third after Christmas for those wishing to join in January. Membership includes rehearsals and performances and all your music, but you will need to bring your own concert uniform (smart black trousers, smart black shirt, black shoes).
