Strings add emotion, power and excitement to a whole range of classical and contemporary songs. Join our String Sinfonia, and make friends while captivating audiences.
If you want to perform in a string ensemble, our String Sinfonia is a great chance to play in a welcoming group of enthusiastic musicians.
We welcome students, staff and members of the local community. You should be able to read music, and perform at a Grade Six level or above (although it is not necessary to have sat the exams).
Where do you perform?
The String Sinfonia plays regularly at Lunchtime Recitals, as well as other NTU concerts and events. It also combines with the Concert Band to perform as the Concert Orchestra at special NTU events.
We perform a wide range of music, from the classic to the contemporary.
How do I get involved?
If you want to find out more about the Sinfonia before signing up, visit us and give a rehearsal a try.
Rehearsals take place on Wednesdays (term time only) between 6 pm and 7.30 pm in the Studio at the Music Centre on the City Campus. Contact the Music Centre to confirm time and location.
A year's membership costs £15 for students, £30 for staff and alumni and £60 for community members. You get a third off after Christmas if you want to join in January. The fee includes rehearsals, performances and music. but not the concert uniform (smart black trousers, smart black shirt, black shoes).
If you haven't got an instrument of your own, you'll be able to hire one from the University.
All areas of the Music Centre are accessible for wheelchair users. Accessible toilets are available on the ground floor and there is a lift to the first floor.
