Overview

NTU's Fully-funded PhD Studentship Scheme 2022

Project ID: NLS4

The ways in which innovation firms obtain finance is an ongoing challenge with both short- and long-term implications for addressing climate change and sustainable development. Financial markets and policymakers must collaborate to create the solutions to move the global economy towards a more sustainable future. Intellectual property rights are at the epicentre of three interconnected worlds: entrepreneurship, finance and corporate governance. Grounded in Intellectual Property (IP) law, this new interdisciplinary project aims to study the increasingly global nature of entrepreneurial innovation finance for start-ups and SMEs with a view to inculcating a sustainable development perspective. We are looking for innovative proposals undertaking research for a PhD degree involving sustainable innovation finance and corporate governance for small to medium sized enterprises (SMEs).

Indicative content may include:

  • The nature of expectations of accountability for the company’s activities, finance, and ethics
  • The impact of the IP rights the company controls in a sustainable development context
  • Sustainable development initiatives in the UK
  • Global innovation start-up ecosystems.

School strategic research priority

This project aligns with the Centre for Business Law and Insolvency’s existing strengths and activities of the IP Research Group. It also sustained cross-disciplinary activity across Sustainable Futures strategic research theme
