Rita is a lecturer in sustainability at the School of Architecture, Design and the Built Environment (ADBE) at Nottingham Trent University. She is working in the ERDF Sustainability in Enterprise (SiE) project as a course and business developer. SiE aims to enhance education on sustainability at ADBE and create opportunities for students to support Nottingham-based Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in decreasing their carbon equivalent emissions.
Before joining NTU, Rita worked as a researcher and lecturer. Rita was a researcher and guest lecturer in the Departement of Management – University of Bologna (Italy), a researcher at NOVA School of Science and Technology (Portugal) and University of Coimbra (Portugal), and guest lecturer in the Post-graduate program in Environmental Sciences at the Federal University of Goiás (Brazil). Before starting her academic career, Rita worked in the Sustainable Development Observatory at the European Economic and Social Committee (Belgium) and as an environmental engineer, consultant, and project manager.
Rita has a BSc. in Environmental Engineering Sciences and an MSc. in Environmental Engineering. She holds a PhD in Management, where she researched environmental accounting and reporting in local governments.
Rita’s research interest is in sustainability assessment and reporting, organisational change, and stakeholder engagement, particularly in public and third sector organisations. She has participated in various research projects related to organisational change management for sustainability, environmental initiatives in public sector organisations, sustainability indicators, and co-design processes.
Currently, Rita is the Principal Investigator in the research project ‘SUSChange: Organisational Change for Sustainability in Nottingham-based Small and Medium Enterprises’. This project is a collaboration between ADBE and the Nottingham Business School to explore the organisational change process necessary to improve environmental performance in SMEs.
Rita is a reviewer of multiple scientific journals, including the Journal of Cleaner Production, Frontiers in Sustainability, Ocean and Coastal Management, and Journal of Management and Governance.
She is a visiting lecturer at the University of Bologna, a research collaborator at CENSE – Center for Environmental and Sustainability Research (NOVA University of Lisbon) and a member of the International Sustainable Development Research Society and the Centre for Social and Environmental Accounting Research.
