Dr. Shatirah Akib is Senior Lecturer of Civil Engineering in the Department of Civil Engineering, School of Architecture Design and the Built Environment, Nottingham Trent University.
Career overview
Dr. Akib was Senior Lecturer in the School of Science and Engineering at Teesside University before she joined NTU. Prior to joining Teesside University, Shatirah was Associate Professor and Research Coordinator at Heriot-Watt University, Putrajaya branch. Shatirah worked as Senior Lecturer of Civil Engineering in the Department of Civil Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, University of Malaya before that.
Dr. Akib has published in peer-reviewed journals and presented papers at both national and international conferences. Shatirah is a manuscript reviewer for a number of journals including Water Management (ICE), Journal of Hydraulic Engineering (ASCE) and others. Shatirah was also the member of leadership team of the International Association for Hydro-environment engineering and research (IAHR) Malaysia chapter from 2015 - 2017.
Research areas
Dr. Akib has secured several research grants and funding. Shatirah also involved in consulting engineering projects such as dam, pump sump, pump intake and water transfer. Shatirah has also graduated a number of PhD and Masters students in Hydraulics, Water Engineering and related inter/multi-disciplinary research areas. Shatirah’s research interests include Fluid Mechanics, Hydraulic Structure Engineering, Hydraulics and Water Engineering, River and Coastal Engineering, Renewable Energy, Natural Disaster and related inter/multi-disciplinary research areas. Dr. Akib welcomes PhD applications in these research areas.
External activity
Dr. Akib is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) and Editorial Board Member of the Journal of Eng (MDPI). Shatirah also involved as PhD and Masters external examiner at various universities.
