Jenny Larkins

Senior Lecturer

Nottingham School of Art & Design

Role

Jenny is a member of the Costume Design and Making academic team, who is currently year two module and year leader. Her focus is costume construction and enhancing the student experience through innovative teaching to develop highly skilled, forward thinking costume makers of the future.

Career overview

Jenny has worked as a freelance costume designer, supervisor and maker for almost 20 years in film, TV, theatre and dance.

Working for companies such as Angels Costumiers ('Wicked'), The Royal Exchange Theatre Manchester, Shakespeare's Globe Theatre and Britain's Got Talent (Addict Dance Initiative), Jenny developed an array of costume construction skills. She brought this depth and breadth of knowledge to her first role of Senior Wardrobe Technician at NTU as part of the BA Theatre Design course, later developing her teaching practice through a PGCHE qualification, and becoming part of the lecturer team on BA Costume Design and Making.

Research areas

Using her background knowledge of technical services and costume construction, Jenny is exploring pedagogic approaches to skills acquisition.
