Role

Walter is the Deputy Course Leader for the Pre-Sessional English Language Programme. This involves the recruitment, training and coordination of course tutors, as well as course and assessment design for the Reading into Writing and Academic Listening components of the programme. Walter also helps students develop discipline-specific academic language and skills by providing in-sessional language support sessions within the School of Art and Design and Nottingham Business School. Walter also co-teaches on the Computer Assisted Language Learning module of the MA English Language Teaching programme.

Career overview

Walter taught English for Specific Purposes for many years in Central and Eastern Europe, and has been a Director of Studies in Business English teaching centres in Krakow and Bucharest. He has also worked as a Teacher Trainer on the Peacekeeping English Project in the Ukraine, which involved delivering teacher training to Military English teachers within the Ministry of Defence in Ukraine and coordinating language training provision for military personnel. He has also developed an online business English writing skills course for EY in Poland.

Research areas

Walter is interested in how students construct academic arguments in writing, particularly in multimodal student assignments. He is also interested in the effects of flipped learning and collaboration on students’ written work.

External activity

Walter is a Fellow of the British Association of Lecturers in EAP (BALEAP).
