Role

Graham is a Lecturer in Human Resource Management, teaching on a range of Post Graduate programmes in the HR department, particularly within the MSc in Human Resource Management, plus also a Post Graduate module on Leading Project Teams. He also contributes to module development and delivery within programmes on Contemporary leadership in 21st Century Organisations and also the personal development elements of the Apprenticeship Degree in Digital Marketing.

Following an early career as a teacher in UK secondary education, Graham transitioned into a series of roles as a Human Resources professional, working extensively with high profile global private sector organisations, particularly within the aerospace and defence sector. Graham subsequently developed his career within the international development sector, with a strong focus on humanitarian aid. Based both in the UK and internationally, Graham has led complex HR and Organisational Development programmes which have impacted staff in Europe and also fragile states across East and West Africa. Graham’s projects have covered the full spectrum of HR activities including organisational change and HR strategy development, policy formation, resourcing, reward, restructuring, employee engagement and performance management.

Graham has a particular interest in developing and improving the relationship between academic and operational HR and ensuring that HR professionals have the practical skills and capabilities to operate successfully as Business Partners within their organisations.

Graham is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, and active member of the CIPD Midlands Area Partnership, and contributes regularly to CIPD programmes and conferences at regional and national level.

Career overview

Prior to entering academia, Graham acquired extensive experience as a strategic and senior people manager within high profile global private sector organisations (particularly within aerospace and defence) and also within the international development sector, with a strong focus on humanitarian aid.
