Role

Helen is a Principal Lecturer in the Marketing Division of Nottingham Business School within Nottingham Trent University. Currently, she holds course Leadership of the Professional Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) suite of courses run within the Executive Education and Corporate Relations division of NBS.

She joined the Marketing division of NBS in 2006 where she developed the single honours degree course in Marketing Design and Communications, now known as BA (Hons) Marketing. Until September 2016, she led the BA (Hons) Management and Leadership in-company course and launched the first degree apprenticeship trailblazer for NBS in April 2016 – the Chartered Manager Degree Apprenticeship (CMDA).

Prior to transferring to NBS, Helen worked for five years as a senior lecturer in the School of Art and Design lecturing in Marketing Management, Marketing Communications, Direct Marketing and Design Management whilst running her own B2B focused Marketing Consultancy targeting SME's and small business start -ups based in the East Midlands.

Career overview

Prior to the Education sector Helen’s commercial and industrial background includes roles as an E-commerce Marketing Manager for a multi-national IT software company and Software Partner Relations Manager for IBM and Microsoft.  She began her career in marketing as a Marketing Executive and then Marketing Communications Manager in electrical engineering and global mining and construction organisations based in the UK. Additionally, through her consultancy, Helen has experience in strategic development, communications planning, goal development, specialist Arts Marketing and working within the not-for-profit (charity) sector, the Creative Industries, Local Government and with regional SME's in the IT software development sector.

Helen is an active member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM); working with the CIM, the Arts Marketing Association (AMA) and the Institute of Direct Marketing (IDM) to embed and accredit their professional practices within Undergraduate, Masters and Corporate degree-level qualifications. She currently manages the NBS accreditation as a primary regional ASC - Accredited Study Centre for the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM).

Helen has been a Snr Fellow of the Higher Education Academy ( FHEA) since 2014.

Research areas

Helen is not currently research active but her prior interests centred on Arts Marketing, student retention and progression within work based education.

External activity

Actively engaged with the Chartered Management Institute (CMI), Helen was a contributor to the Degree Apprenticeship trailblazer, Provider Readiness Group and Apprenticeships discussion webinar panel hosted by SFA and Sheffield Hallam University.

In March 2016, Helen represented NBS as an invited panel member and speaker at the CMI East Midlands Degree Apprenticeships launch in Manchester.

Helen is a member of the Executive Education and Corporate Relations Advisory Board representing the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) and Leadership and Management corporate courses.

She has held several external validation/assessor roles, most recently for Birmingham City University and New College Nottingham.

Further external activity includes membership of the Chartered Management Institute (CMI), the Institute of Direct Marketing (IDM), the Arts Marketing Association (AMA) and the Institute of Directors (IoD); engaging in and attending regular events, external lectures and briefings with the aim of developing links between business management and Higher Education.
