Killian is responsible for the delivery of a number of postgraduate and undergraduate lectures and seminars at NBS. His teaching approach involves the development of problem-centred rather than content-orientated learning; to allow discussion and self-direction within taught education. Where possible Killian also tries to adopt an experiential learning approach through the use of class workshops, discussions, critical reflection and practical tutorials. In terms of his pedagogical philosophy he is firmly of the belief that while it is imperative to impart knowledge onto students this should also be supplemented by encouraging self-directed learning
Killian’s research is situated in Consumer Culture Theory, involving ethnographic explorations of subcultures of consumption and internet cultures. Current research involves the investigation of the workings of anonymous social media apps.
