Role

Dr Carroll is a Senior Lecturer in Chemistry and Education. He lectures in organic and physical chemistry on the undergraduate degree course. In the Nottingham Institute of Education, he is a subject and professional tutor on the PGCE teacher training programme.

Career overview

Prior to working at NTU, Dr Carroll worked in research and business roles within the chemical industry, and then retrained as a secondary school teacher working in schools in England and Australia.

Research areas

Dr Carroll’s research interests include the professional development of both new and current secondary school science teachers, and managing the student transition from school to university.

External activity

Dr Carroll is currently a member of the editorial board for the journal Education in Chemistry. He is also an A-level chemistry examiner and advisor for one of the UK’s exam boards.
