Role

Dr Carroll is a Senior Lecturer in Science Education with his particular specialism being in chemistry. He currently lectures Chemistry on the BSc Secondary Science degree and the Pre-ITT Subject Knowledge Enhancement (SKE) course. In addition he lectures Core Science and acts as a Tutor on the Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) programme.

Career overview

Before joining NTU, Dr Carroll taught science in three secondary schools, his most recent position being as Head of Department. Prior to teaching, Dr Carroll worked for several years in both research and business roles within the European chemical industry.

Research areas

Dr Carroll’s research interests include the professional development of both new and current secondary school science teachers, and managing the student transition from school to university.

External activity

Dr Carroll is currently a member of the editorial board for the journal Education in Chemistry. He is also an A-level chemistry Examiner and Advisor for one of the UK’s exam boards.
