Senior Lecturer — Nottingham Institute of Education.


Neil’s main teaching roles fall within the BA (Hons) Education degree, where he leads on Outdoor Learning and various other education-related and shared modules across the BA (Hons) Education (Early Years), BA (Hons) Education (Psychology), and BA (Hons) Education (Special Educational Needs and Inclusion) degrees.


Neil is course leader for Nottingham Institute of Education (NIE) provision at NTU’s Mansfield HE Campus, currently for the FdA Education.

At the core of Neil’s educational philosophy is the championing of the student.  He works with and for students, promoting every opportunity for student voice activities; examples include leading the Institutions Cert Mentor programme, co-ordinating student representative activities as well as facilitating events for our international student body within the Nottingham Institute of Education (NIE).


Neil has a scholastic interest in the relationship in employability and particularly the links between student placement/work experiences and a student’s programme of study.  To that end, Neil has worked extensively with internal and external partners to promote and build opportunities to secure a wide range of student placement opportunities both nationally and internationally.

Career overview

Neil Stott is an experienced educator, having worked across the further and higher education sectors, supporting teaching and learning for students and staff as they study towards undergraduate qualifications, or teacher training qualifications through his former leadership of ITE in FE settings.

Neil worked within the engineering sector for the first ten years of his career, before moving into Education and Training. This aspect of his own experience informs his approach to social justice and advancement through merit.
