Role

Shirley Hewitt teaches on the Primary Education, Early Years EYITT PGCE and BA Early Years programmes. She is also a University Link Tutor for the relevant students when they are in placements.

Career overview

Shirley has over 30 years’ experience working with young children. Having qualified as a primary teacher in 1991, she has worked in a variety of settings including mainstream schools, private nurseries, social care and the charity sector. She has always had a keen interest in working with Early Years settings and supporting inclusive practice.

Shirley has taught in Higher Education Institutions for over 10 years and has worked with schools to develop high quality provision. During this period, she has also spent time back in the classroom working as a primary teacher, ensuring that she maintains a current understanding of teaching and learning in practice.
