Catarina Galhardo Lopes is a full-time Legal Assistant at NLS Legal, working predominantly in the Family Law Service but assisting the work of other service areas such as the Intellectual Property Service and the SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disability) Service.

She is a 3rd year LLB International Law student and started her placement at NLS Legal in September 2022.

Catarina is co-leading the Environmental Law Foundation (ELF) Policy Clinic Project within NLS Legal, with her team focusing on ‘Reviving UK Waterways’ and byelaws.

She is a member of the NLS Legal Student Committee, passed the training to conduct Social Security Advocacy in the Social Security Chamber and worked with the NLS Legal Outreach Project in Nottingham Women’s Centre.

Catarina is currently a Student Trustee at NTSU and Vice-Chair of NTSU’s Elections Committee.

Career overview

Before starting her Legal Assistant role, Catarina was a student volunteer in the Intellectual Property Service at NLS Legal in 2021/22.

She was the Course Representative in her first year at NTU and was previously a CERT Student Mentor and Student Ambassador for NLS.
