Aleksandra Drummond

Global Student Experience Coordinator

NTU Global

Role

Ola coordinates the activities at Global Lounges at City and Clifton campuses, and one off events at Brackenhurst Campus. She travels between campuses to raise awareness of NTU Global and liaises with other departments to ensure students and staff are aware of different opportunities that NTU Global team offers.

The Global Lounges are spaces for organising various cultural events, and Ola is always keen to speak to students and help them promote and share their traditions and information about their countries with the NTU community. Ola is passionate about languages, and therefore was keen to develop the Language Café, which runs weekly at City and Clifton campuses during term time. It is a great opportunity for students and staff to practise languages but also meet friends from around the world. Organising Global Week 2017 has been her biggest challenge so far – together with the team they organised the biggest Global Week yet! Global Week 2017 was her first one ever at NTU, and she is really pleased that a lot of students and staff got involved and shared their cultures.

Career overview

Before coming to NTU, Ola worked as the Executive Officer at the University of Sussex International Summer School. Apart from running operations of the International Summer School, her role was to also organise the social programme for 500 students each summer. She was involved in organising 80 - 90 events over an 8 week period each year, including day trips to different cities in the UK, such as Cambridge, Oxford and Bath; taking students to see Shakespeare in the Globe in London; and see musicals at the West End. She also organised trips to local countryside and walks across South Downs Way, so visiting students could appreciate how beautiful England is.

Prior to her role at Sussex she worked at Brighton Language College (BLC) as a Student Services Manager. At BLC her role developed over time; she worked at different departments such as Reception, Accommodation, Accounting, Activities, Operations and Sales. The role was varied, and gave her a good insight to how language schools work. Ola is originally from Poland, and studied MA International Relations at Krakow  University of Economics. During her studies she secured a space on a study abroad exchange year in Scotland and an Erasmus+ semester in Italy enabling her to learn a lot about different cultures and the world. She highly recommends studying abroad and therefore enjoys working within an international environment with students, where she can share her first-hand experience and encourage them to take up study abroad opportunities.
