Fungisai Mushawa is a Senior Lecturer in Social Work. She is the current Course Leader for the BA Honours in Social Work. She is also the module leader for the following CPD courses:-
Leadership and Management in Social Work Services
Leadership and Management – Action Learning
In addition to the above, she co-teaches on a number of BA and MA Modules including:-
Reflective and Assessment Intervention Strategies
Theory, Methods and Models
Delivering Professional Social Work Practice
Preparing for Professional Social Work Practice
Fungisai is also a dissertation supervisor for MA students and personal tutor across BA and MA cohorts.
Fungisai is an experienced Social Worker with over 25 years experience in frontline Social Work including Child Protection, Looked After teams, Fostering and Adoption experience. This includes experience as a social worker in Zimbabwe in similar fields and also working with children and adults with disabilities, the protection of orphans and other vulnerable children, working with people with HIV and AIDS, working with communities towards poverty reduction, human rights and social justice and drought relief.
Fungisai has also worked in Local Authority and Independent Fostering Agencies at Senior Practitioner and Management levels. She has experience as a Fostering Independent Reviewing Officer. Fungisai has experience of teaching at a Higher Education College on the Early Years programme and Mentoring/Tutoring students on the Child Care Award at the University of Birmingham
Fungisai has done research on the effects of parental imprisonment on children and individuals’ families and this is an interest she would like to explore further. She has also done research on the role of the supervising social worker and is looking at developing this area and other areas in fostering further.
