Career overview

Before joining NTU Jill worked as a Team Manager for Nottinghamshire County Council in the Learning and Development Department. In this role she commissioned and managed post qualifying teaching for social workers and other professionals such as occupational therapists. Prior to this she worked as a social worker for 20 years, primarily with children and families within both statutory and voluntary organisations. For a number of years Jill was an independent professional member of an Adoption Panel.

Research areas

In 2010, Jill contributed to the Key Themes in Health and Social Care book published by Routledge in 2011. During 2011 and 2012 she was involved in an evaluation of the work of Spiral, a voluntary agency in Nottingham offering bereavement services to children and families within the region. This resulted in a paper being presented at conference in April 2012. Previous research Jill has undertaken is an attitudinal survey of foster carers working for Nottinghamshire County Council in regard to dealing with children who had been sexually abused which was written up as a dissertation as part of my MA in Social Work.

Jill is currently working on producing a DVD with Nottinghamshire Children Looked After to be used in teaching on the social work course.

External activity

Jill is currently an external examiner with Lincoln University for their MSc in Advanced Professional Social Work Practice.
