Role
Colin Clarke is Head of Hockey and oversees 10 hockey squads (5 Men’s & 5 Women’s) competing on a weekly basis in BUCS as well as 6 squads (3 Men’s & 3 Women’s) who compete regionally at weekends. Colin manages the delivery of our high-performance coaching & support team for our top International male & female dual athletes from around the world providing them with the environment to flourish and achieve their potential & provide secure building blocks to succeed Internationally after completing their studies. In his role, Colin and the coaching team provide development opportunities for all playing levels throughout the year along with the creation of an IM league internally as well as providing opportunities for IM players to compete bi-weekly with other Universities. Colin leads & collaborates on other projects which include athlete recruitment in N.Ireland, USA, Central Europe and South East Asia.
Career overview
Prior to his appointment at NTU, Colin was Head of Hockey at Cargilfield Prep School in Edinburgh (2008-2015), Scotland Senior Women’s Assistant Coach (2011-2015) and was involved in the European Championships (2011 & 2013) and the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow (2014). During his time at NTU, Colin ran the GB Development programme (2015-2016) & was Assistant Coach of the England U21 Women at the Junior World Cup in Santiago, Chile. Colin led England U21 Women to a bronze medal at the European Championships as Head Coach (2017). Colin is currently Finland Senior Men’s Head Coach and is preparing them for the European Championships in Malta in 2021. Colin is a UKCC Level 4 Coach & has a PG Dip in Elite Coaching from UCLAN.
External activity
Colin is Head Coach of Beeston Ladies 1st XI who compete in the English Premier League. Colin works with local players and integrates NTU players to compete at the highest level in the country. Colin runs a sports coaching company called Sportoló Life providing learning opportunities for athletes to develop across a number of sports.
