Changes to your PGR study
Learn more about the possible changes to your doctoral study and how to apply.
Change of study type
When you applied for and enrolled onto a doctoral programme here at NTU, you will have agreed to undertake your study either full-time or part-time (unless you are a professional doctorate or 'at distance' candidate.)
If you find during the course of your doctoral degree that you need to change from one to the other -- then you may be able to apply to change your study type. To do this, you must first discuss your decision with your supervisor and then submit a Change of Mode of Study request on the PGR Dashboard.
Candidates are only able to transfer to part-time registration within the first 24 months (as detailed in paragraph 8.7, section 11 of NTU Quality Handbook). After 24 months, the ability to change mode of study is not permitted.
Change of supervisory team
Your supervisory team are a key part of your doctoral journey, and maintaining a good working relationship with them is crucial to the success of your project. However, a situation may arise in which you need to request a change of supervisors. Any change of supervisor must be approved by the School Research Degrees Committee.
If you are seeking a change of supervisory team, the supervisors and doctoral candidates are asked to discuss the matter with the Director of Doctoral Programmes (DDP) and School Research Degrees Committee (SRDC) Chair (or their nominee) for the relevant School in the first instance and complete a Change of Supervisory Team request on the PGR Dashboard.
If your supervisor leaves NTU, and a new supervisor is appointed by the academic School. This form will also need to be completed to update the candidate record and inform the Doctoral School.
Application for project redesign
If, during the course of your research, your project changes significantly from the proposal you submitted at project approval, you will need to apply for project redesign.
Please complete and return the project redesign form to the Doctoral School for consideration.
