Over 4,000 kg of student waste diverted from landfill in The Big Clear Out
Published: 15/09/2023
Thank you to all the students who donated unwanted items and food to the donation points across campus in 'The Big Clear Out'. You donated an incredible amount to local charities.

Between May and September, you may have spotted the British Heart Foundation drop boxes and food collection crates in the campus hall receptions. These were places you could easily donate your unloved items and spare food, instead of throwing it away.
The amount donated was incredible to see!
Over 500 bags of household items and electrical goods, worth over £7,000, were donated to the British Heart Foundation. These items will be sold in their shops to raise money for vital research, meaning over 4,000 kg of waste has been diverted away from going into landfill.
Around 25 large crates worth, or 800 kg, of food was gifted to local food banks Himmah and Emmanuel House.
We'll be running this initiative again. Keep an eye out for more donation boxes and points over the coming year.
