Join us to commemorate Windrush Day

Published: 17/06/2024

On Saturday 22 June, we celebrate the 76th anniversary of the arrival of the Her Majesty’s Troopship (HMT) the Empire Windrush in Britain, which brought hundreds of passengers from the Caribbean. This day honours the Windrush Generation, and their descendants, for their tremendous contributions to Britain’s post-World War II recovery and their continued impact.

How is NTU marking Windrush Day?

Join a special talk on the colonial origins of Windrush and hear from NTU Alumni

Join Dr. Jenni Ramone, Associate Professor of Postcolonial and Global Literatures, for an insightful talk on Windrush, its colonial origins, and the literature and art that represents it. The event will take place on Monday 24 June, at 1 pm in the Global Lounge at City Campus.

As part of this event, you'll also hear from NTU Alumni, Peter Makossah, on how he's breaking down barriers relating to the Windrush Compensation Scheme. He'll discuss his work with the UK Home Office and his efforts to communicate the scheme to various communities. Peter completed both his undergraduate and master’s degrees in law at NTU and is now a legal consultant at Crown and Law Solicitors as well as a pro-bono legal advisor at Mojatu Foundation.

No booking is required for this event - just turn up and you’ll be welcomed.
