Make sure your password's unique

Over the summer, all students were asked to update their passwords, so hopefully you’ve picked something easy to remember but complex enough that it can’t be guessed. If you want a reminder of how to craft a strong password take a look at our guidance.

However, it’s also important that the password for your student account is not one you use for any other accounts. It can be tempting to reuse passwords, perhaps making small changes like adding a few extra numbers, but this leaves your account vulnerable to attack.

If any of your other online accounts are compromised and the password is leaked, this puts your NTU account in danger. You can check if your credentials have been found in a data breach at haveibeenpwned.com.

Use a password manager

It’s definitely no easy feat to remember all the different login details we accumulate over the years, so it’s no wonder 78% of people use the same password across multiple accounts.

This is where a password manager can help. A password manager allows you to store all your login details for all of your online accounts in one place. They let you generate incredibly complex passwords that are completely unique for each account. The best part is you can access your password manager wherever you need it, on your laptop, tablet or phone. The only password you need to remember is the one to unlock your password manager.

  • aware of security threats and know what to do if you think your data has been compromised
  • able to identify the warning signs and how to avoid being a victim of phishing emails, social media fakes and suspicious websites

  • confident reporting a data breach.
