This one-day workshop offers an introduction to hospitality design and will be of value to anyone wanting to pursue a career specifically in the restaurant, bar and hotel industry.

It will help you develop your design skills and research techniques and will provide you with a better understanding of planning stages, regulatory requirements and environmental sustainability.

Whether you're already working in the design industry or hoping to pursue further academic studies, this workshop will help you develop your design skills and show you how you can become a member of creative team.

What will I gain?

By the end of the day you will know how to formulate a concept project for a commercial space, begin the design process and have ideas about how to present your design to a professional standard.

Tutor Profile: Amanda Ford is an interior architect who specialises in designing luxury bars and restaurants.

She believes a guests’ experience with a restaurant starts long before they walk through a door - and lasts long after they leave.

Amanda is a partner in the Grey Coffee design agency and is also a part-time design tutor.

She has an MA (distinction) in interior architecture.

What you'll study

During the course you will:

  • learn about trends in design and materials
  • critique the work of other designers
  • create a design brief for a commercial space
  • commence a design for an interior
  • learn about the various stages of installation, including tender and costing, FF&E sourcing and design management.

You’ll be introduced to these techniques through lectures and creative exercises which will enable you to put information and processes into practice.
