This course introduces you to the professional and technical subjects within the field of real estate, and the building technology concepts with regards to traditional domestic and low-rise multi-storey construction.
You'll also learn about the principles of investment, investment characteristics and investment valuation techniques, and the key aspects of land use and the Town and Country Planning system.
By the end of this course, you’ll be able to:
- generate new ideas, innovations or solutions to problems
- communicate information, ideas and concepts in an articulate fashion
- work constructively and cooperatively in teams
- apply ethical and professional values to situations.
A CPD certificate will be issued upon successful completion of a course.
Passing the assessed element (an exam or coursework) can also contribute credit towards a postgraduate award. All candidates seeking credit will be assessed on a case-by-case basis. If you wish to receive credit you must mention this at the time of application, or with your tutor at the earliest opportunity.

What you'll study
This course will include:
- traditional building techniques including foundations, wall construction, floor systems, roof systems and fenestration
- an overview of building services
- non-traditional construction techniques
- alternative forms of investment and the concept of yield
- the basic techniques of real estate valuation
- an introduction to valuation and investment mathematics, formulae and tables
- the purpose, nature and application of national and international property valuation standards
- the forces behind urban change, the planning framework and urban planning policy.

Teaching and learning will take place using a flexible programme of lectures, workshops, seminars and tutorials.
Entry requirements
Level: Professional/postgraduate
Entry Requirements: You should have a minimum of three years’ professional experience.
If you wish to receive credit, you should also have a 2:2 honours degree in a subject unrelated or partially related to real estate or construction.
Applicants with non-standard entry qualifications and/or relevant experience will be considered on an individual basis.
