Everything we buy, do or use will have been part of an event, conference or product launch.

This online course will help anyone who wants to have a greater understanding of both live and hybrid events.

You might be an early career marketer planning a PR opportunity or a PA tasked with your first event.

You could be a graduate just starting out in the events industry; whatever your motivation this course will give you the opportunity to expand your specialist knowledge and skills.


Do you know your DDR’s from your F&B’s, your FAM trips from your MICE, or the banquet style to cabaret style table layouts?

On this online course (delivered via Zoom) you’ll develop the skills needed to confidently plan and deliver an event to a professional standard.

It'll give you an insight into the world of events and inspire you with the confidence to present your own events plan.

You’ll address all aspects of the event management process, from venue sourcing to critical planning pathways.

The sessions will be delivered by live online lectures, group discussions and activities plus manageable homework assignments.

You’ll have the opportunity to share personal projects and assignments, as well as receive feedback and group critiques.

What will I gain?

By the end of the course you’ll be confident in the event planning process and have a good understanding of the profession, enabling you to advance in your career.

You’ll also leave with all the tools to plan your own event to a professional standard.

Tutor Profile: Paula Kelsey is an experienced event and marketing professional and has run hundreds of corporate events and awards ceremonies over the past thirty years.

Her experience in the sector has covered everything from advertising to aerospace, design to digital marketing, medical conferences to food industry trade shows.

Paula also runs her own business, Cloud 9 Event Management, delivering events for the public and private sector.

Paula also is the chair of the Alliance of Independent Event Agencies and is a Board Member on the UK Awards Standards Council.

An experienced public speaker, Paula often contributes to the trade press and is asked to speak at industry events and trade shows.

What you'll study

During the course you will:

  • learn about industry-standard terms and definitions and why these really matter
  • understand and interpret a client brief
  • recognise best practices in the venue sourcing process
  • look at key communication skills for delegates and other stakeholders
  • understand the supply chain process
  • discuss new technology and platforms used to manage communications
  • address health and safety measures, risk assessments and safer meetings plans
  • look at creative and innovative ways to keep momentum surrounding your event
  • address different ways you can engage your audiences through event marketing
  • explore sustainability in your events plan and venues
  • examine the structure and process of delivering a successful awards programme
  • learn how to engage at trade shows.

You’ll be introduced to the methods and techniques used to complete a project, whether this is for yourself or for a client.
