Designing with E-textiles

e-textiles
  • Level(s) of study: Short course
  • Study mode(s): Full-time
  • Location: City Campus
  • Starting: 23 July 2018
  • Course duration: One week

This course will introduce you to the phenomenon of smart e-textiles and how to develop a concept that could be applied to fashion, interiors, architecture or textiles.

The course will begin with an introduction to e-textiles, looking at case studies of products that have been created.

You’ll then go on to explore the components that designers are using, and their versatility.

Finally, you’ll transfer this new knowledge to a design project of your choosing.

This course is ideal for anyone who’s following a design-related degree at undergraduate or postgraduate level.

It’s also open to lecturers, teachers and technicians who are new to the subject and who want to create products that bring together electronics and textiles into a new and exciting forum.

We’ll encourage you to be open and willing to learn, and to come to the course with an enthusiasm to be challenged.

What will I gain?

By the end of this course you’ll be able to identify the potential of e-textiles, understand how to make e-textile circuits and know what materials and equipment are required.

You’ll have a concept in development along with a presentation that you can share with others.

You’ll also be sent a set of handouts and presentations from the course so that you can continue your design work.
