Pattern Drafting Level Two

This course is for people who have completed the level one course and/or already know how to draft and fit a basic close-fitting body block and a basic one-piece sleeve block.You must be well practised in the assembly of garments (this is not a learn-to-sew course).

The course will provide you with practical skills in both drafting and constructing womenswear.

It’s ideal for portfolio development or career and professional development. You might be:

  • a previous short course delegate
  • a home dressmaker seeking to improve their skillset and pursue their hobby in a creative environment
  • a student wishing to develop their portfolio
  • a student requiring assistance to support other studies
  • a designer wanting to improve your knowledge of the pattern cutting and garment construction process
  • a school or college teacher
  • an industry professional wishing to expand their skill set and improve their CV.

What will I gain?

By the end of the course you’ll have developed a range of pattern drafting skills to a level beyond beginner, and a technical file of notes to help you continue making garments.

What you'll study

On this course you will:

  • explore methods of creating fullness
  • tackle waistbands and shaping
  • be introduced to basic trouser drafting
  • enhance your skills in sleeve development (puff, cuffed and capped)
  • learn about circular cutting for skirting, peplums and frills
  • create experimental toiles
  • watch demonstrations, with tasks accompanied by detailed notes.

You will also consolidate your knowledge in taking measurements correctly, drafting pattern pieces from a block, fabric lay planning, fabric marking and cutting, toile assembly and fitting.
