FIND US ON

Our outstanding MBA Finance course offers you a truly life-changing experience and an exceptional opportunity to realise you full potential. The Master of Business Administration (MBA) is the most coveted and internationally recognised postgraduate management degree in the world, and there's a good reason why. It is widely recognised as a passport to a successful management career, enabling managers with a functionalist role to take on a more senior, strategic position and empowering senior managers to gain the in-depth, strategic knowledge they need to climb even higher.

The MBA Finance will enable you to develop a critical understanding of the theoretical techniques, concepts and methods employed in financial and risk management. You will be exposed to different frameworks designed for the implementation of financial models. Emphasis will be placed on practical applications in various contexts with which finance professionals will be familiar and expected to be competent. Through real life case studies you will highlight limitations and strengths of financial models in terms of behavioural and technical pitfalls.

Delivered in a world-class learning environment, by internationally acclaimed academics and business leaders, the course integrates theory and practice to bring you  hands-on experience, inspiring teaching and a clear international perspective. Here at Nottingham Business School, we are proud to have developed an innovative and rigorous MBA with opportunities to personalise your learning around your ambitions. Significantly strengthening your management knowledge, leadership capabilities and understanding of global business.

Our innovative, intensive courses prepare you for a wide range of challenges inherent in managing organisations, enabling you to see the interconnectedness of your actions. Whichever you choose, you will acquire the knowledge you need to work effectively at a senior, strategic management level, empowering organisations to achieve their objectives.

What will you gain from this degree?

The insights, expertise and placement opportunities they provide all help to make sure our graduates forge exceptional careers all over the world.

Your placement year will last up to 48 weeks (minimum 36 weeks). If you are unable to take a full year's placement, but have completed the minimum 36 weeks you can qualify for a Placement Diploma in Industrial Experience. If you undertake a placement, you must take up the Business Research Project in Semester Three

See our placements page for further details and read our frequently asked questions document for additional help.

Please note that placements are not guaranteed and you will need to work hard in securing one during your first semester. We have a dedicated employability team who are here to help and support you during the placement process with CV writing, creating a LinkedIn page, interview tips, where to search for a placement etc. You can visit the Employability Team’s placement page for further information.

How you’re taught

The way we teach

We've developed a cycle of learning based on theory, practice, experience and observation, and reflection and improvement. So, you'll not only be taught the latest strategies, but also given every opportunity to put your learning into action in real business settings. We structure our courses to encourage constructive learning, self directed study, critical thinking and team work. You'll spend much of your time in small groups workshops and tutorials, discussing and analysing your experience of business practices and behaviours.

Personalisation

We know our postgraduate students are a diverse group, with different levels of academic knowledge in their chosen area of study, different cultural and educational backgrounds, and varying levels of personal and professional skills and competencies. The motivations for undertaking postgraduate study vary, but the two main motivators, according to the Postgraduate Taught Experience Survey (2017), appear to be grouped around two main themes; ‘career progression and employment prospects’ and ‘personal interest’.

At NBS we strive to ensure that these two motivating factors are nurtured and therefore supported. Our students are encouraged to practice and develop the skills and competencies required to critically reflect on their learning, and on their ability to apply this learning to their studies and to real world complex issues within the workplace. Through a series of curricula and extra-curricular initiatives, strengthened by tailored academic mentor support, NBS provides all our postgraduate students with the ability to participate in a range of challenging and unique activities, projects, events and experiences to enable our students to succeed in a competitive and dynamic global environment.

Professional  Development

Upon graduation you will not only receive an MBA, but also a CMI Level 7 qualification in Management and Leadership. Our partnership with the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) means that you’ll enjoy complimentary student membership for the duration of your course and first year after you graduate.

Study and support

Our Masters courses enable students to challenge pre-conceived thoughts and question the applicability and relevance of theories within a constructive and collaborative environment.

We will help you to expand your thought process and develop your critical thinking skills through a combination of our teaching methods, and giving you many opportunities to challenge the perspectives and ideas of your tutors and peers on a regularly basis.

Teaching and learning methods are centred around interactive workshops which are highly participative in nature and will employ case studies, discussions, business simulations and group activities.

Interactivity is key to our teaching and we are committed to providing courses that adopt teaching methods that are appropriate to the student cohort and the specific modules.

We ensure that support and guidance is in place, especially during the early stages of the course and assessment periods, to help you become comfortable with operating in a student-centred learning environment.

Induction

All our courses begin with a comprehensive development programme that will help you prepare for your studies and develop key academic and transferable skills. A key feature is a short residential team-building course, normally in the Peak District.

Browse through a selection of photos from our residential weekends.

You will also have opportunities to meet members of the teaching team and other postgraduate students, receive detailed programme information, and gain valuable support and guidance from the library, careers service, international office and Student Support Services.
