More about Dan

“I have always been fascinated with animals and studying zoo biology has helped widen my knowledge and added to my interests. By studying zoo biology I hope to open doors into the zoo industry and follow my ambitions of working with exotic animals.

“Zoo Biology involves studying the behaviour and anatomy of various animals as well as the management and welfare of them within zoos. It involves practical sessions at the animal unit where you gain hands on experience with a range of animals from rabbits and goats to lizards and invertebrates. Not to mention the field trips and zoo trips.

“I particularly enjoy the animal behaviour module as it introduces new information. The individual interests of students are taken into account and the module lecturers link the knowledge to our favourite animals where possible. With some of the assignments given to you, you get to do them around an animal selected by you which makes it all the more interesting to do and is specific to your interests.

“If you are thinking of looking into the animal industry career-wise, and particularly exotic animals, then I would definitely recommend that you give NTU a look as it has incredible facilities and staff that are always there for you. Brackenhurst Campus is a great place to do this course as it has specialised facilities and an animal unit full of a wide variety of fascinating animals. The campus is in a prime location where you feel away from the stress of everything yet can easily access Nottingham city if you like your nights out.

“The course tutors are incredibly helpful and will respond to you as soon as possible. They are very approachable and you can talk to them about anything. If you need any support then they are always available by email where you can arrange to meet up with them to talk about any concerns whether it’s related to the course or not.

“Nottingham is a great place to live as there are lots of places to go for entertainment. The night life in Nottingham is great but even if that’s not what you are looking for there are plenty of sites around the area to visit. There’s something for everyone.

“Being a student at Brackenhurst is incredible. Brackenhurst is a small campus relative to the city, which gives you a real sense of community. I would definitely recommend living in halls as everyone in halls gets to know each other really well and you will bump into a friendly face daily.

“Even though Brackenhurst is away from the city it is easy to get there are back for the night life with a night bus from city to campus or a taxi.

“During my time here I have joined the Endangered Species Society as well as the Photography Society. By joining a society, you will get to meet more like-minded people who share similar interests or hobbies to you. The societies will create events such as talks with special guests about the topic of the society and trips such as zoo trips.”
