More about Utkarsh

“When picking my university course, I wanted to do something geography or ecology related. When I found Environmental Science, it was the perfect choice as it covered geography topics like geology, and also ecology topics.

“Environmental Science is an integrative course which includes chemical, biological and physical processes occurring on our planet. This means I got the opportunity to record and analyse foraging behaviour of wild boar in southern Spain, work with the Peak District national park to identify sites for suitable renewable energy generation sites, and go on multiple field trips to collect water samples in Nottingham and Spain to improve water analysis techniques.

“Personally, for me, it was the variety of modules that have been the defining factor of my enjoyment of the course over the years. The course has the right distribution of lab work, field work and lectures. Moreover, the variety in lectures like law and IT with mathematics and statistics across the degree keeps the course interesting and unique.

“Environmental Science at NTU covers such a wide range of disciplines. If you are considering a career in the environmental sector it will definitely help you identify a pathway or help you discover something you feel passionate about.

“The tutors are all very approachable and always make themselves available for one on one meetings whether it may be for feedback or general assistance with the modules. The employability team is also an excellent department that helps you bridge the transition from being a student to post-university life, by guiding you from finding a job to helping you complete every step of the job application.

“When I came to the open day in Nottingham it was important that I felt comfortable and enjoyed my time here as I would be far from home. After living here for three years, I can honestly say Nottingham has become a second home to me. It was so easy to settle down being surrounded by friendly flat mates, helpful fresher reps and helpful staff at uni to get you enrolled.

“The city provides something for every mood; a cinema for the movie lovers, shopping centres for shopaholics and countless bars and clubs, which complements student life with dedicated student nights.”
