Why MSc Real Estate at NTU?
"Having studied Business Management for my undergraduate degree, I felt my knowledge was too broad and I was left without a specific set of skills to set me apart from other jobseekers. I was so taken with the dynamics of Real estate investment, that I decided to study MSc Real Estate and pursue a career in the field. I chose NTU because I was excited about the vast array of pathways offered with the very clear and thorough support I received during application process.
"I love that you can choose between a dissertation and a research project to be done alongside an internship and the emphasis on practical knowledge. The modules listed in the syllabus were all very interesting. I liked the combination of Law, Investment, Property Appraisal, Planning and Professional Practice. I felt that the syllabus covers literally every aspect of the industry. The course is also accredited by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) which means I can progress onto completing my Assessment of Professional Competence to become a member of RICS with sufficient knowledge.
Did you go on any trips as part of your course?
"We had fantastic field trips to London and Budapest as part of our Professional Practice module. We got to meet representatives from Coldwell Banker Richard Ellis, Jones Lang LaSalle, Cushman and Wakefield, Trigranit. We visited construction sites and office buildings in the city of London, such as the Cheesegrater. It was great to network with the people already in practice and also fun to complete projects based on presentations we heard from the key players in the industry.
How do you find the support from staff on your course?
"All the tutors and course leaders are incredibly helpful and genuinely try to do everything they can to guide you through the course. As an international student, I know that students from countries other than UK feel a lot of pressure with finding a job and it is great how much support there is available at NTU. The Employability Team and my course leader helped and motivated me a lot.
How has the course prepared you for industry?
"I now have specialist skills needed to jump-start my career in Real Estate. I know how to measure buildings, valuate property, how to use various databases and Argus software. We also had intensive legal training, which is very important to become a chartered surveyor. I love the welcoming feel of NTU and my knowledge now definitely sets me aside from other job seekers. It has been a fantastic year."
