It was great to work with professionals from industry and get honest, constructive feedback from them.
More about Charlotte
Placement company: DS Smith
“Nottingham is a great city with everything you could possibly need within walking distance or a short ride. The opportunity to do a placement year was a big deciding factor for me, I knew that getting out into industry and experiencing it first-hand would be the best way for me to learn.
"Although some other Universities offer placements, NTU has copious industry links and a fantastic department specifically aimed at helping find the best placement for you. I was also impressed with the ongoing success of previous students on the course and I decided I wanted a slice of that success!
What have you enjoyed most about your course?
“In second year with Nestlé, we were set a project to design a new Aero chocolate and packaging that would make the experience last longer, also taking inclusive design into consideration.
How did you spend your placement year?
“I undertook my placement with a leading European packaging company, DS Smith, in Belper. I spent 16 months in the job where I had a range of tasks to undertake on a daily basis. I also worked on several projects for blue chip companies like Nestlé, Mondelez and KP.
“I liaised with customers to make sure that we always met their needs and I learnt so much about business and manufacturing. The placement was invaluable. I was able to network with a range of industry professionals who have already helped me in my final year of study and will hopefully help me in the future.”
