What attracted you to the BSc (Hons) Construction Managementcourse at NTU?
"The course at NTU has a strong reputation in the industry which is highlighted through its CIOB accreditation. The course itself offers a diverse range of knowledge about the industry that allows for flexibility in deciding which sector to specialise in. There is also the opportunity for a placement year, providing students with practical hands-on experience. The course has a practical element to it, keeping it interesting and enjoyable.
"NTU offers a complete package for students. There is no shortage of a social life with a complete variety of things to do, thanks to NTU's city campus being at the heart of Nottingham's vibrant city centre.
What has been the highlight of your course, so far?
"In second year of Construction Management we were required to undertake a seven day surveying trip. The aim of this was to put into practice what we had learnt throughout the year during our Engineering Surveying modules. Even with the preparation for the trip throughout the year, it was surprisingly challenging being left to our own devices to complete the exercises set.
"Despite the intensity of surveying throughout the day, the trip was a great opportunity to bond with everyone from the course and meet other NTU students from other courses during and after surveying exercises.
Tell us about your work placement
"I am spending my placement year at Francis Jackson Homes in Olney. My supervisor is the Contracts Manager for Francis Jackson Homes and I have become heavily involved with the work he undertakes on a daily basis. Everyday provides a different challenge and I have been fortunate enough to have a good balance between working in the office and onsite to develop a well-rounded experience.
"I have also had the chance to work with other members of the team including quantity surveyors, purchasers, sales managers, planning directors and site agents. This has given me a better understanding of their various roles and responsibilities within the company.
