More about Francesca
Placement company: The Walt Disney Company
“NTU has an incredible reputation when it comes to design, they have well established connections with industry which in turn gives promising graduate prospects. I wanted to be immersed in everything to do with student culture that wasn’t too different from home, which I feel the City Campus offers. I knew instantly on the open day that NTU was for me.
“The variety BA (Hons) Product Design offers is one of the my favourite aspects of the course, it allows you to explore everything from graphics and packaging, to homewares and lighting which enables you to find your strengths and the elements you love. The facilities at NTU are the best that I found when searching for universities, they are constantly keeping up to date with new technologies and investing in equipment that allows students new ways to bring their ideas to life. This was another aspect that really drew me to the university.
What have you enjoyed most about your course?
“During my time at NTU I’ve been lucky to be involved in a few live briefs which allow you to get a feel of how design works in the real world. My favourite was the packaging project for Aero which I was able to work with chocolatiers and create my own range – everything from flavours to branding were all decided and presented to Nestlé.
“I have had the best support in every aspect at my time NTU, the tutors are approachable and always on hand to offer advice. I am lucky to have people who are so experienced in the field to pass on their expertise.
How did you spend your placement year?
“As a student on the sandwich course I have completed a year industry at The Walt Disney Company as a Product Development associate. The role covered everything from quality control of products going into UK stores, to designing the products myself to factory standard. I have gained copious amounts of experience on the Adobe Suite which has pushed my CAD work to a high standard which I can now use in my final year studies."
