What have you enjoyed most about your course at NTU?
“What I enjoy most about my course at NTU is how there’s a perfect balance between socialising and academia. The course, although can be tough at times, is generally a very social course with plenty of interaction between students and staff which then helps with the academic learning. NTU has been the perfect place to develop me as a young professional.
“The course staff are exceptional; they’ve helped me develop my knowledge and understanding of the construction industry from grass-roots all the way through to placement standard and beyond. The staff provide a good balance between theory work and practical work by holding lectures then seminars/laboratories in relevance to the lectures. This style of teaching has helped my understanding of how things go together.
How did you spend your placement year?
“My placement was with a UK Top 5 contractor called Morgan Sindall with an annual turnover of £2.6 billion. On my placement I was based on a £20m new build and demolition education project based in South Wales. Initially I was exited but nervous about the expectation of my employer and how I’d fair in the working environment but Morgan Sindall staff were exceptional, providing me with a training plan for the year and helping me start my RICS accreditation. As my placement continued my role within the team became more and more crucial with work load and responsibilities increasing.
Has your course prepared you for your placement work?
“University has matured me as a person by developing my organisation, communication and presentation skills that I’ve progressed into the work place. These skills that have been naturally developed over my time at university has made me a more valuable asset to the team, by being able to keep on top of my workload, contacting sub-contractors, arranging meetings and presenting my work in a professional manner.”
