More about Jack

Why NTU?

“Architecture at NTU is a well-rounded course that questions how we are influenced by all aspects of life, and how that inspiration is reflected in the spaces we create. There are no limits to the possibilities and prospects presented to all of the students at NTU, from industry contacts and to world travel. The university has a certain atmosphere, a creative buzz.

How do you find the facilities on your course?

“We have excellent facilities available to us. All of the facilities have teaching staff to help with the processes and guide you from concept to completion. The workshops are all within close proximity to the Architectural studio. The workshops, computer suites and studios all have the latest software, printing processes and machinery.

Has the course included any speakers from industry?

“Every week we have talks from world accredited practices and large firms, who talk about their experiences and influences. The lectures vary and give an insight to how our studies related to real world context. Personally my favourite lecture was by Cadaval & Solà-Morales, a practice based in Mexico and Barcelona. The practice creates an intimate connection between user, space and the delicate, topographically rich context.

Have you been involved in any live projects or industry competitions?

“During my two years I have encountered many live projects. Many of our assignments are involved in the rejuvenation and revival of forgotten and unloved urban waste grounds. Year one was a communal centre development project in Sneinton, Nottingham. I found that we as designers bring people together, providing fulfilment and stimulating a community to enjoy the space as one.

“We have also been involved in a live project organised by RIBA’s East Midlands branch, Nottingham and Derby Society of Architects, which involves involved the redevelopment of locations across Nottingham’s famous Creative Quarter and the power of a public space that congregates individuals from all walks of life.”
