More about Lillian
What do you enjoy most about your course at NTU?
"I’ve enjoyed working on the variety of projects and people we work with. Unlike most other subjects, Architectural Technology is made up of modules from other subjects, where we lightly touch on areas in the design and construction industry. We have collaborated with Architects, Interiors, Construction Managers and Surveyors to Engineers giving us that broader understanding and a transferable skill set. I feel like the Architectural Technologist plays the role of connecting people.
"I really enjoyed collaborating with the Architects in my final year. The live project was to create an imaginary business plan for the year 2025, where our company ‘MODE’ was to exhibit, present and convince customers that 3D printing your home was the new future. It really tested our ability to work with each other and trust one another’s ideas, giving us that insight of what working in a practice will be like.
How did you spend your placement year?
"I spent my year out on placement and gained such an invaluable experience. I went on three different placements throughout the year in Leicestershire, Stevenage and Northampton, specialising in energy efficiency, retail design and planning respectively. The variety of placements definitely gave me a clear insight of the architectural industry and how they are all connected. The different areas I worked in showed me the different stages of work from their point of view, allowing me to appreciate the whole process. I would definitely recommend a placement year to any student, the experience is priceless and it doesn't compare to anything you read from books!"
