Because of the range of courses offered at NTU it allows for a broader range of facilities which are available to us as students.
More about Megan
“The main reason I wanted to study at NTU is the content and structure of the course. The facilities are also very good. Because of the range of courses offered at NTU it allows for a broader range of facilities which are available to most students, especially in the Maudslay workshops.
“The University's City Campus is based in the city centre which is ideal for student life. There's accommodation for all budgets and located close by to the main buildings.
Are you involved in any societies?
“I’m part of the Design Society at NTU. We recently visited Stockholm for Stockholm Design Week. This was the first Design Week I'd been to and this wouldn’t have been possible without the society.
Have you been involved in any live projects or briefs on your course?
“I’ve taken part in one live brief so far with the company Rega, where we had to design and make a portable concrete speaker. I enjoyed working with concrete on this project as it is something I’ve never experienced before and I wouldn’t have thought to work with concrete.
Has the course included any industry competitions?
“We were given a choice of briefs from Starpack, set as part of the annual Starpack awards. I chose to design an air freshener. I enjoyed having the choice from so many different options of briefs so I could choose something that interested me.
What advice would you give to prospective students?
“I would encourage to focus on drawings over CAD work and to build up a portfolio of work and ideation. To start sketching and designing outside of school/college, and to keep up with current trends and innovative designs.”
