More about Nida
Placement company: Turner & Townsend
How did you spend your placement year?
“I took the sandwich route where I worked for my third year in industry before returning to NTU for my final year. I worked for a global construction consultancy, Turner & Townsend, whose office is located in Nottingham. I was the assistant Project Manager and assisted on a number of projects, from leisure centres and office developments, to commercial use of buildings and also programme management projects for Rolls-Royce.
“I was given a lot of responsibility and enjoyed it thoroughly. In retrospect, doing a sandwich placement and particularly with this company was one of the best decisions as its helped me in final year work and I’ve gained a lot of experience. I also intend to return to the company once I graduate.”
What have you enjoyed most about your course?
“The support from our lecturers has been excellent. I find that they’ve always been available and willing to help whenever I’ve required assistance outside of class time - they are very supportive and approachable people. The course itself is also set out really well and I feel the modules are made to be very interesting!
“In our final year, we are currently working on a live on-site project, which we are required to do all of the pre-tender exercises for. This will be assessed through a presentation to my tutor, a report and presentation to the actual contractors at the end of the year.
Have you been involved in any competitions?
“I was nominated for the Women in Property Award in 2014 and went to Birmingham to present a project I’d worked on previously. Unfortunately I didn’t win but it was a great experience and something to tell future employers.
“The work that we do is not only rewarding but also very interesting and taught in a way that makes it even more exciting. The teaching on my course is excellent and I personally feel I could not have chosen a better course anywhere else.
