What made you choose to study at NTU?
“The placement year opportunity on offer as part of the course, and the city life of Nottingham.”
Can you tell us about your placement year at DCI-Artform?
“I was a Student Design Engineer and was part of the design team developing large international cosmetic display units. This involved 3D CAD building of units, producing visuals and prototypes. The experience really helped me to improve my skills and knowledge of SolidWork software.”
What do you like the most about your course?
“I like that the range of briefs you are set allow you to challenge yourself, and the fact that you are able to gain experience in industry as part of a placement year. My placement year really helped me to progress as a designer and gave me valuable insight into what life after university might be like.
“In my final year I have really enjoyed working on my major and minor project. Having the freedom to design in response to your own brief is great.”
Has your course included any trips?
“We had the opportunity to visit Berlin and go to various design museums such as the Bauhaus Archive. It was great to gain a deeper understanding of the various design processes used by famous designers. We also had the chance to visit lots of historic landmarks.”
Can you tell us a bit about the staff on your course?
“The tutors are always on hand to offer advice and answer any questions, in addition to the technical staff who have really helped to develop my manufacturing knowledge.”
“What do you like about studying and living in Nottingham?”
“It’s really enjoyable being a student at NTU as there is a large active student community. There is always something to do during the weekday and weekends. Nottingham is a lively city with lots of shops and restaurants.”
Why would you recommend studying BA (Hons) Product Design at NTU?
“The placement year on offer will enable you to develop you skills and gain experience before completing your final year, setting you up for employment when you graduate. In addition to this you’ll have access to a wide range of workshop facilities and be challenged with a variety of briefs.”
Where do you hope to be in five years?
“Working within a successful design consultancy.”
